Garage Floors
Similar to quartz flooring, vinyl chip products are great for garage floors as well as commercial applications. Both quartz and vinyl chip flooring are 100% solids so no VOC's are present. In addition, chemicals like industrial cleaners and oil spills can be wiped right up from the surface. Something to Consider Some areas of Nebraska have high water tables. When building a structure over the top of such an area, water will want to force its way up through the concrete slab. This is called, "vapor pressure" and its occurrence becomes problematic when a non-breathable covering is put on top of the concrete such as an epoxy coating or even tile. The result is extreme pressure that builds up in the concrete and breaks through in weak areas of the floor covering. Epoxy coatings will blister and even tile installed over such a surface will loose its bond to the concrete surface and eventually come off. This can spell disaster for a finished floor. There is a quick and easy way to check for vapor transmission on your garage floor before a covering is installed. Find a piece of heavy plastic and duct tape it to your garage floor. Leave it there for 24 hours. Remove the plastic and tape after one day and if there is visible moisture below where the plastic was, you do have a significant amount of vapor transmission. There is a fairly inexpensive way to circumvent the problems this may cause and it is by installing a water vapor passifier (MVP) which disperses the intense water pressure throughout the concrete slab so it does not cause focal areas of high pressure The MVP is a resinous product that is spread onto your garage floor before the vinyl or quartz overlay is installed. It will add one more day to completion of the final product, but it is well worth it. Consult with Deco Crete for further details on this product. |
